history

The Early Years

Oak Hills Elementary

St. Jude's Mother Parish added a Sunday morning Mass for the growing Oak Park and Westlake communities at Oak Hills Elementary School in September 1989. About 50 families attended those first Masses. By July 1992, this community was large enough for Cardinal Mahoney to appoint Fr. Peter as Founding Pastor of a new parish -- St. Maximilian Kolbe

Outgrowing the School

Moving to a Storefront Cburch and Fundraising

By mid 1994 the new Parish had outgrown the school despite adding Masses, and we moved to a new facility able to seat 300 in a storefront opposite our intended construction site. Fundraising started and meetings with the community to select an architect and discuss plans.

Construction Begins

Grading and Building

Plans evolved along with the fundraising to achieve the goals of the Building Committee, the Architects, and the Community. Once approval of the plans had been granted by the Archdiocese and the City, grading and construction of the site began in September 1998. Construction of the Sanctuary and Offices was completed in March 2000.

Dedication

March 2000

Cardinal Mahoney presided over the Dedication of our Church in March 2000. The building was baptised and confirmed, the Altar was consecrated, and the site became the Sacred Space occupied by the Church of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish Community to serve the Lord by serving one another and the larger community.

A second capital campaign enabled the Campus to be completed -- the O'Reilly Hall was dedicated in 2002.
